90+ Points of Excellence
MAY 26, 2018 // WINE
Hello, my lovelies, Jess here, and today I am going to tell you about 90+ Point wines. I can hear you wondering… “Jess what the heck does 90+ Point even mean?!?” No worries, I’ve got the breakdown for you on all things “90+ Point”, how a wine gets that label and some bottles that we carry in our restaurants across the country.
90+ Point wines are bottles given a score of 90 points or more on a 100-point scale, meaning they are outstanding in character, style and taste. While there are a ton of scales that rate wines, we typically go by the Wine Spectator or Wine Enthusiast 100-point scale. Basically, whenever you see a bottle with some sort of 90+ point label or rating, it means the juice is worth the squeeze.
Now, you may be thinking, “Do wines have some sort of final exam they have to pass to be labeled that?” Yes, just like when you used to take tests in school, wines from all over the world are examined by industry experts and given grades for their quality on a scale from 0 to 100. A few of the key factors tasters look for are the flavors of the wine, how it is structured and overall character in terms of the region it comes from. When these components are masterfully executed in a bottle of wine, that bottle is given a higher score.
Because I am a little bit of a wine enthusiast, I pulled in over 100 bottles of 90+ Point wines across our Grille restaurants and they are just waiting for you to enjoy them. Looking for some rich, flavorful red wines to add in to your rotation? Let me introduce you to the Darioush Merlot coming out of Napa Valley, or Bramare Malbec by Paul Hobbs from Argentina. Want to kick off or end your meal with some bubbles? The 2006 Moët & Chandon “Dom Pérignon” Brut is the bottle for you. Is the temperature starting to rise where you live and you’d like a crisp, cool white wine? The 2015 Cloudy Bay Sauvignon Blanc or 2015 Lewis Cellars Chardonnay will do the trick. No matter the time, place or occasion, we have a wine that is as special as you are.
Alright guys, that’s all for me today. Until next time – love your faces.
